The film was found to be dated January 9, 1960, and contains various shots of places that were mentioned in the book, such as Stanleyville and Leopoldville, as well as shots of the Congolese people and the elected Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba. This also shows some of the rural areas, like where the Prices lived, as well as the cities which they visited in the book.

ReligionChristian missionaries did have some success in the Congo, and now about one half of the population are Christian. The other half believe in the traditional African gods, primarily the monotheistic religion of Nzambi.
| LanguageFrench is the official language of the Congo, so Reverend Price had the right idea when he forced his daughters to learn it before setting out for the mission trip. There are more than sixty local languages spoken, the main ones being Kikongo, Sangha, and Bateke. Also the villages have a talking drum language that has been developed to broadcast specific beats for things like marriages, deaths, births, etc.

Men in rural areas hunt;" (Culture www) Many women are discouraged from trying to attain a job or education and instead are expected to perform housework and rear children. Men and women in the Congo did not exchange or share roles, so Leah hunting with the men would go against all typical customs.
